We are so excited you can join us in the great city of Detroit.  For those of you visiting for the first time, or if its been a while since your last visit, we’ve included some suggestions for your time here.  We hope you’re able to come into town a little early, or stay a little later, so that you get a chance to take in some of what Detroit has to offer.

DETROIT INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS

Considered one of the best art collections in the US, this museum features works by Degas, Cézanne and a significant collection of African and African American Art.  Visit the cafe in Kresge Court, and don't miss the "Detroit Industry Murals", 27 fresco panels by the famed Mexican artist Diego Rivera, depicting industry at the Ford Motor Company.

Belle isle park

Frederick Law Olmsted, best known for designing New York City's Central Park, created an urban park design for the island, located in Detroit River between Detroit and Canada, in the 1880s.  Notable landmarks of the 982-acre park include the Belle Isle Casino, the botanical garden, and the Belle Isle Conservatory.  The island is accessed through a bridge at the intersection of Jefferson Ave & East Grand Ave.  Vehicles accessing the park need a Recreation Passport, $5 for cars with Michigan plates, $11 otherwise.  Admission is free for those on foot or bike.

DETROIT HISTORICAL MUSEUM

Admission is free at this museum dedicated to Detroit's extensive history. Visit the "Streets of Old Detroit" exhibition, with a replica of Detroit in the 1840s, 1870s and 1900s

MOTOWN MUSEUM

Tour Hitsville U.S.A., the birthplace of Motown.  Here you can see Studio A, Motown's first recording studio, and learn how Berry Gordy built the Motown sound out of the house he lived in with his family.

Eastern Market

This market, a mile northeast of downtown, was opened in the 1850s, and is now one of the oldest and largest year-round markets.
